Serum Institute seeks DCGI approval to manufacture Sputnik V

The Serum Institute of India (SII) has sought permission from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) for a test license to manufacture the Russian COVID-19 vaccine, Sputnik V. 

It is the third vaccine that has been approved by the drugs regulator in the country, after Covishield and Covaxin. The Serum Institute has also informed the Indian government that it can manufacture and supply 10 crore doses of the Covishield vaccine in the month of June. The company is also manufacturing the Novavax vaccine, which awaits regulatory clearance from the United States.

Meanwhile, the Union health ministry has also worked out arrangements with Biological-E to book 30 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses, which will be manufactured and stocked from August to December. The vaccine manufactured by Biological-E is an RBD protein sub-unit vaccine, which is undergoing Phase-3 trials… (HT, June 3, 2021)
